Something New I've Been Working On

For well over a year now, I have been working on a special (and huge) project that I am eager to share with the world. As a receiver and reader of this newsletter, I wanted to share my new endeavor with you first.

As you may know, while I don’t consider myself (or perhaps anyone) a grief expert, having lost my brother, mother, husband, and father, as well as many other extended family members and dear friends, I call myself “grief experienced.” Over the last six years, since allowing my art journal to be published as the book, The Hospice Doctor’s Widow, and working in the end-of-life space, I have learned so much about grief beyond my own experiences.

Every single grief experience is unique, dynamic, and unending. There is no checklist. Grief is not linear. Grief, like love, cannot be scheduled or measured. No two grief journeys or even grief moments are exactly the same. I have learned it is never a good idea to compare griefs, at least not externally. I have learned the impact of major days, like anniversaries and holidays, on grief. I have learned that emotional pain is like physical pain. It is entirely subjective to the individual experiencing it.

In early spring 2025, I started wondering how grief, as a topic, could be more compelling. Grief is such a consequential element of our lives, and yet we really aren’t taught much about it until someone we love dies, and then we start searching for guidance. I decided to create a world where cute little characters represent the elements of grief. Want to meet all the other characters of Grieflandia? Head over to www.grieflandia.com.
